In 2026, we discovered a hidden gem in Chuncheon, South Korea: 'Seoyoungine' restaurant, specializing in braised cod. After a refreshing hike with my husband, we indulged in this unforgettable meal. This review covers the incredible flavors of their signature dish, the vibrant festivals near Chuncheon City Hall, and a surprising cultural heritage site we stumbled upon, all topped off with artisanal coffee.
Hiking Trails and Unexpected Cultural Events Near Chuncheon City Hall 2026
My husband and I recently revisited the hiking trails behind Chuncheon City Hall, specifically near the Chuncheon Public Library. It brought back memories of a past event. The newly constructed stair path offered stunning autumn views, though the foliage hadn't reached its peak yet. As we descended, we noticed pinecones scattered along the roadside and took a brief detour towards the direction of Mujeong. This path also leads to the main entrance of the Gangwon Provincial Museum. We finished our hike just as an announcement for an upcoming outdoor breakdancing performance caught our eye. The next morning, returning to the same trail, it was inspiring to see the small pine trees, which had been nurtured with stones at their base, had grown considerably. The crisp autumn air was undeniable.
Chuncheon City Hall Festivals and Photography Exhibition 2026
While heading to a recommended restaurant, we stumbled upon a lively festival unfolding in front of Chuncheon City Hall. The city hall's walls were adorned with beautiful autumn colors, and we were drawn towards the main hall where a national Gugak (traditional Korean music) competition was underway. Before that, however, a captivating 'Korea-Gangwon China Dandong Photo Art Exchange Exhibition' caught our attention. We spent some time admiring the photographs from China's Dandong region. Although the Gugak competition was on a lunch break when we arrived, we still enjoyed viewing the works by Korean Gangwon artists, marveling at landscapes we hadn't seen even in Seoraksan National Park.
'Seoyoungine' Braised Cod Restaurant Review 2026
The restaurant, now known as 'Seoyoung', was a recommendation from my sister-in-law. The menu was clearly displayed outside, building our anticipation. We wondered if the 'Clear Cod Stew' on the menu was the same as 'Daegu Jiri' (a clear cod soup). The unique sight of tree branches hanging down from above the building added to the charm. Inside, the restaurant was already bustling with customers. My sister-in-law expertly ordered the signature dish: Braised Cod (Daegu Jorim). It arrived with a mouthwatering presentation, accompanied by a spread of refined and generous side dishes. The Daegu Jorim itself was incredibly flavorful and served in a generous portion, packed with thick, flaky cod. It was truly an unforgettable taste. My only regret was the abundance of side dishes, as I dislike wasting food, but the generous servings allowed us to enjoy everything without restraint.
Chuncheon Myeongdong Underground Hand Drip Coffee and Unique Drinks 2026
After our satisfying meal, we headed to a renowned hand-drip coffee shop located in the Myeongdong Underground Shopping Center in Chuncheon. The plaza and surrounding shops in front of the cafe offered a refreshing and open atmosphere. This cafe is known for roasting its beans using charcoal. To avoid disrupting my sleep, I opted for Omija-cha (a traditional Korean berry tea), while my husband chose grapefruit ade, and my sister-in-law ordered lemon tea. The beautifully colored teas served in elegant cups were a delight. The underground shopping area was vibrant with weekend activity, and the cafe provided a perfect spot to relax and enjoy our drinks.
