As the departure date loomed, a mix of emotions accompanied the final culinary explorations in Korea. Comfort foods like 'tearful' chicken and pasta provided solace, while C.C.H.K.'s cheese balls offered a delightful snack. The pasta from 56st Loppasae was also a memorable highlight. A sweet escape was found at Myeongdong Mattcha, indulging in matcha ice cream. These meals were more than just food; they were poignant moments marking the end of an era and the exciting anticipation of a new beginning.
From Jamsil's Kanda Soba to Tongyeong's Bapsangmadang: A National Food Tour

After visiting Lotte Tower, the Jamsil Kanda Soba main branch offered a delightful experience with its Abura Soba and pork rind. The Abura Soba, in particular, was a standout dish. During a trip to Tongyeong, Bapsangmadang served a delicious braised cutlassfish (Galchi Jorim) and sea squirt bibimbap. While the sauce for the Galchi Jorim was exceptional, the fish size was a bit small. The sea squirt bibimbap was fresh and flavorful. A must-try in Tongyeong Central Market is the mugwort ice cream from Suksuk Coffee, which was so rich and smooth it became a personal favorite.
From Homemade Gimbap to Daejeon's Soul Food: Unforgettable Meals
Mom's homemade carrot rappe gimbap was so delicious, it inspired attempts to recreate it even after moving abroad. Momstouch's Hot Cheese Ssaik Chicken was a perfectly seasoned, slightly spicy choice for a beer snack. On moving day in Daejeon, the soul food of clam kalguksu (noodle soup) and spicy stir-fried squid with tofu was incredibly satisfying, with the noodle add-on being essential. The braised pork ribs at Appsan Keungoljip, a treat from a cousin, were enjoyable with their clean side dishes, rice, and buckwheat pancakes. Neighboring Farm's Hot Pot (Nongmin Tteukkeuni), recommended by a friend, is a Daejeon gem second only to Sung Sim Dang; the medium spicy level with udon noodles is highly recommended.
Cafe Hopping and Special Dinners: Documenting Pre-Departure Flavors
Enjoying coffee at Starbucks with family offered a moment of shared enjoyment. Dad opted for a French Vanilla Latte, I chose the Grapefruit Mango Coco Frappuccino, and Mom selected a Vanilla Cream Cold Brew. The final dinner in Tongyeong was a family affair, savoring grilled beef and pork prepared by Dad. The yuzu-flavored honey bread was particularly memorable among the local specialties. At Gome Espresso in Doan-dong, a unique, non-acidic, nutty drip coffee was experienced, though the latte was less impressive. A special thanks to my uncle for introducing Hanmaeum Meat Restaurant, where the beef and pork were excellent.
